This is a very personal portrait. My cousin, Alicia, lost her mother, Mary, at a very young age. She was loved so dearly by her sisters and her loss was devastating.
Alicia recently contacted me to do this portrait for her and I was honored.
"Mary" is done in charcoal on Bristol 96lb.
The reaction to this particular drawing has been an emotional one. It was difficult to do because of the deep attachment to the subject, and because I wanted her to be as beautiful as I remember her. I was only ten years old when she left us.
